Dynamic Art Comes to Life in Downtown Des Moines
We’re thrilled to announce the unveiling of an extraordinary new mural by internationally acclaimed Dutch artist Leon Keer at 901 Grand Avenue. This stunning 8,000+ square foot artwork was made possible through a collaborative partnership between the Des Moines Public Art Foundation and Principal Financial Group.
The mural features Keer’s signature hyper-realistic style, showcasing vintage televisions that display beautiful Iowa landscapes across the building’s facade. But this isn’t just static art—the experience extends beyond the wall through cutting-edge technology.
In an exciting fusion of traditional muralism and modern technology, the mural’s television “screens” come alive through a free Augmented Reality (AR) iOS app developed by the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation. Visitors can use their smartphones to unlock additional interactive content, creating an immersive experience that bridges the physical and digital worlds.
The mural was officially unveiled Saturday evening, adding another vibrant piece to Des Moines’ growing public art landscape. This collaboration demonstrates how public-private partnerships can create meaningful community assets that celebrate both local culture and artistic innovation.
